So you think you understand this thing you’re holding? Think again. Stop tapping. Stop swiping. In fact, stop touching the screen at all. To crack Blackbox’s puzzles you’ll need to find solitude and stillness, climb mountains, call on friends, get in tune with the cosmos, and think outside the box.
Minimalistic visual clues make for incredibly satisfying “Aha!” moments, while sonic interfaces provide an extra level of guidance and nuance that makes Blackbox accessible with or without vision. Thoughtful haptic feedback, Easter eggs on Easter eggs, and solutions that can’t be found beneath the glass of your screen redefine what a puzzle can be. You’ll never see your device the same way again.
Think you’re clever? Prove it.
(Blackbox is a living game under active development by Ryan McLeod. When not eating burritos or drinking coffee, he’s busy designing and developing new Blackbox challenges.)
Scroll along. Nothing to see here but a bunch of wet paint and apologies balled up in a tortilla and shipped out into space to be beamed down to your puny glass-encrusted hand computer.
Here’s what’s good: ■ Some of you were having trouble with a certain red meta challenge when you did the thing without doing another thing first. Now you don’t have to do the second thing before the first thing will work. Kapiche? ■ Bought the Co-co-co-combo Pack but didn’t get any hints? I wasn’t trying to stiff you I just thought you already had [MEMORY POINTER] hint coins. May the sky once again rain golden doubloons upon you. ■ A certain teal meta challenge near the share button didn’t play the beautiful sonic machinations of my sound designer Gus. Fixed. ■ A very old challenge had a background color I’ve never much cared for so I painted over it …with black! Do you know which one it was? ■ I replaced all of Blackbox’s gold-plated Monster audio cables with straightened-out coat hangers! Infrequent audio crashes should now be more infrequent.
Thank you everyone who submitted bug reports this week or left a nice review this week. I read them all! ~Ryan
